What is Auslan?

Auslan (Australian Sign Language) is the primary language of the Australian Deaf community. It is a visual language with its own unique grammar, syntax, and cultural significance.

Do I need any prior experience to start learning Auslan?

No prior experience is required to start learning Auslan. Our introductory courses, like Auslan 101, are designed for absolute beginners.

Can hearing people learn Auslan?

Absolutely! Auslan is for everyone. Learning Auslan fosters inclusivity and bridges communication gaps between Deaf and hearing individuals.

What courses do you offer?

We offer a range of programs tailored for different needs, including:

  • Auslan 101: Introduction to Auslan (12 hours).
  • Auslan 102: Conversation skills (12 hours).
  • Auslan 103: Lifestyle communication (12 hours).
  • Auslan for Organisations: Tailored corporate training.
  • Auslan in the Home: Family-focused sessions for NDIS participants.

How do I know which course is right for me?

If you’re unsure, our Lunch 'n' Learn sessions provide an overview of our programs and help you identify the best fit for your needs.

Are your programs suitable for children?

While most of our programs are designed for adults, we can tailor training for families with children as part of our Auslan in the Home program.

Logistics

Where are your courses held?

Our programs are offered in various formats, including:

  • Face-to-Face: At workplaces, community centres, or our training locations.
  • Virtual: Online delivery for remote participants.
  • Home Visits: For family-focused programs under the NDIS.

How long are the courses?

Most of our courses are 12 hours, divided into sessions to suit your schedule. For example:

  • 6 sessions of 2 hours each.
  • 4 sessions of 3 hours each.
  • 12 sessions of 1 hour each (for Auslan in the Home only)

Do you provide training materials?

Yes, all participants receive tailored resources to support their learning

Fees and Funding

How much do the courses cost?

Our Auslan 101, 102 and 103 courses are $249 per person. DACT and Auslan for Organisations are dependant on the package required - contact us for more information.

Are your programs eligible for NDIS funding?

Yes, our Auslan in the Home program is fully covered under NDIS for eligible participants.

Do you offer group discounts?

Yes, discounts may be available for larger groups. Contact us for details.

Learning Experience

What can I expect during the training sessions?

Our sessions are interactive and engaging, with a mix of:

  • Hands-on Auslan practice.

Will I be fluent in Auslan after compoleting a course?

Fluency in any language takes time and practice. Our courses provide a strong foundation and practical skills to build upon.

Can I continue learning Auslan after completing your courses?

Yes! We encourage continued practice and offer advanced training opportunities. Additionally, engaging with the Deaf community can enhance your skills.
